AMERICAN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION MOTORCYCLE MINISTRIES

Greetings to our Lord’s Churches,

My name is Steven Hudson and my wife is Jessica, I am the Senior Pastor of Hwy. 5 Baptist Church, in Bryant, AR. We saw many of you at the National meeting as we promoted the Biker Ministry at our church, Heaven Bound Bikers, and were greatly encouraged by the enthusiasm that we received for this ministry. We had been, and continue to be, in prayer for direction from the Lord in this ministry.

Some of our prayers have been answered as the Lord brought others into contact with us who had started ministries under similar circumstances, logistics, and visions although they were not biker ministries. In fellowshipping with these brothers and sisters the Lord has put on our hearts a more defined vision for this ministry.  In August Hwy 5 Baptist Church voted to sponsor us in a national ABA Motorcycle Ministry.

The Lord has burdened our heart for the biker community desiring to see the lost saved, the un-churched, and ministering to the spiritual needs of those in the biker community. This is a huge mission work in our own back yards and for the most part there is no organized New Testament work.   The mission field in our own country is every bit as big and white unto harvest as the foreign field yet we tend to neglect our own backyards. Statistics show that there are about 150,000 licensed motorcycle riders in Arkansas and over 23 million in the United States! These numbers are growing by about 13% per year and the majority are lost or un-churched. The biker community like the foreign field is not one you can just walk into and start a work that will grow by leaps and bounds. Bikers are very protective, cliquish and stay close to the members of their club, group, or association. This makes it necessary that you ride and ride a lot in order to be accepted in these groups. The biker motto is “live to ride and ride to live,” this requires that you be at as many events as possible, talking to bikers you have met, and being introduced to people they know. This ministry is about building personal relationships in order to share Christ because bikers look at what you do before they will respect what you have to say.

Our vision is to see other members of ABA churches join in a National ABA Motorcycle Ministry. This work would include starting chapters like “Heaven Bound Bikers” in their churches with this becoming an ABA associational work. The membership in the ABA Motorcycle Ministries would be restricted to members of ABA Churches in good standing, while membership in the individual church chapter would be directed by the church sponsoring them. As other churches start their groups we can begin to plan and have local, state and national events together promoting Christ among the biker community.

There are other “Christian Groups” out there but only one that we are aware of that is under the direction of New Testament Churches. It would be a blessing from God for the churches of the ABA to have their own presence and work in the biker community. My wife and I would be glad to talk with any churches interested in starting a group in their church and we are willing to help you get started. Prayerfully consider if the Lord would have you to join in this work. I would love to come and present our work in your church if possible so feel free to call me.

As with all ministries, we have need for help in many areas, the most important of which is prayer. There is a great need for travel funds as we go into the biker community. We are in a great need for a travel trailer or a motor home for our family of four.  As we travel around the country, it is expensive to regularly stay in hotels. While staying in our tent is ok in much of the time in some places and times of the year it is difficult.  The other area of need is contacts, as we are not yet able to travel full time it limits our contacts in other states, so if anyone knows of Churches or individuals of the ABA who are working in the biker community please contact us with details.

If any of our sister Churches or individuals feel led to help us in these areas you can contact us at or our sponsoring church, Hwy 5 Baptist Church of Bryant, AR.  You can also visit our Churches website to find out more about us and contact information www.highway5baptistchurch.com.  If you would like to receive our monthly report, you can email us at hwy5baptistchurch@gmail.com or phone us at 501-766-4713.

May God Bless you.

ABA September/October
Newsletter 2009

ABA Motorcycle Ministries was launched on September 1st a few days after our 1st year anniversary party of Heaven Bound Bikers Association.  We had a great celebration party were more than 50 of our friends got together for food, fellowship and some good fun.  We had a band named Psalms 100 played some great music for us.  Let the games begin.  We had bike games that got everyone involved and wet.  The Lord truly blessed us with some great contacts and fellowship.
One of the greatest things that has happened in the past 2 months is the Lord sending us the Davis family to be our mission helpers.  They are a wonderful couple.  Larry was recently saved at a motorcycle rally that we went to in Mt. View, Arkansas.  Mary was a preacher's daughter that loves God and his work.  They both know what it takes to work hard for many reasons but one is that the Lord has blessed them with a special needs child, Jessie.  We are so excited about this family and their work with us.
In October we began our new biker services 2 times a month on Monday night.  It has been put on our heart that many bikers do not attend a church service because they are gone on the weekends.  Although we have not had any guest at our services we have had great worship together.  We are continuing these services the 1st and 2nd Monday nights in November and December.
Our group Heaven Bound Bikers went to a rally the first of October in Clinton Arkansas.  We were blessed to have a new couple come with us Phil and Kate.  It was great to get to know new people and have great fellowship with our friends.  We have had the opportunity since then to minister to this couple on many occasions.
We are now preparing for our next big event our Biker Thanksgiving.  We have it planned for November 21st.  We are going to start at 10am with a toy drive for Little Rock children.  Then we will have a great thanksgiving lunch at noon.  We will then have a great band and biker games in the afternoon.  Everyone is welcome to come and fellowship with us.
